Improve Your Vaginal Health with the MonaLisa Touch™

Menopause is a natural part of life. However, when women undergo hormonal changes, symptoms like vaginal itching, burning, and dryness can detract from their intimate relationships and quality of life. The MonaLisa Touch™ laser offers a new, minimally invasive solution. The revolutionary MonaLisa Touch™ laser treatment helps women alleviate their symptoms without needing surgery or undergoing risky hormone replacement therapy.

How Does the MonaLisa Touch™ Procedure Work?

The MonaLisa Touch™ is a minimally invasive procedure that uses a C02 fractional laser to relieve some of the most common symptoms of menopause. The laser is inserted into the vagina and its laser pulses stimulate new collagen production in the vaginal wall. Laser vaginal revitalization naturally increases blood flow and lubrication to help improve the natural function of the vagina. If you suffer from vaginal dryness, itching, or experience pain during sex, the MonaLisa Touch™ can help alleviate your symptoms without causing pain or inconvenient side effects.

What to Expect During Laser Vaginal Revitalization

MonaLisa Touch™ laser vaginal revitalization is an outpatient procedure that lasts less than 30 minutes. Patients will notice results after the first treatment, though three or four sessions are normally recommended to achieve the best outcomes. Laser vaginal revitalization is not painful, but an anesthetic cream can be applied before the procedure to reduce discomfort. Patients should refrain from sexual activity for two days following the procedure, but can otherwise resume their normal routines with no downtime.

  • Nutrition Services

Proper nutrition and adequate physical activity are well known and well documented in numerous clinical studies to be associated with decreased cancer recurrence and overall quality of life improvement for cancer patients.

Our dieticians work with patients and their families to help them develop an understanding of proper food choices to promote a healthy life. Nutrition counseling services include assessing your nutritional risk and determining your goals and then providing practical suggestions to help you meet your nutritional needs. We will also offer strategies for family members and caregivers to help maximize nutrition intake.

Eating guidelines for cancer patients can differ greatly from usual dietary guidelines. Our dieticians can offer recommendations for cancer patients that are specifically designed to help the patient cope with the effects of cancer and its treatment. The benefits of maintaining optimal nutrition through our nutrition services treatment and long after include:

    • Prevention or correction of malnutrition

    • Enabling the patient to tolerate treatment better

    • Maintaining or improving strength and energy

    • Improved ability to fight infection

    • Improved recovery and healing after treatment

    • Maintaining optimal quality of life

    • Reduction in risk of cancer recurrence

    • Reduction in risk of developing a new cancer

  • Nutrition & Physical Performance

Maintaining strength and muscle mass during cancer treatments helps to prevent or reduce the risk of complications, such as infection, and also enhances quality of life. Our physical therapists help patients and their caregivers regain a sense of hope and control over their health by teaching proper and safe exercise to boost immunity, maintain or rebuild function, endurance, and improve muscle and bone strength. Even a small amount of exercise can help patients decrease side effects and provide benefits such as decreased anxiety and an increased sense of control.

Our physical therapist will work with you and your family to develop a personalized program based on your individual needs and goals. After a thorough assessment of your current status, they will provide easy to follow instructions for how to maximize your physical function.

Some of the benefits provided by regular physical therapy and activity include:

    • Improvement of weakness due to cancer or its treatment

    • Improvement of muscle atrophy

    • Decreased fatigue and improved endurance

    • Improvement in impaired balance

    • Improvement in pain tolerance

    • Decreased risk of osteopenia or osteoporosis (bone loss)

    • Decreased peripheral neuropathy (numbness or tingling in hands or feet)

    • Overall improvement in cardiovascular health

    • Improved immunity and ability to fight infection

  • Physical Wellness

Cancer survivors often face a wide range of physical health issues and concerns both during and long after treatment as there are often long term side effects of the surgical and medical treatment of the disease. An increased risk of developing cancer in other organs, increased bone loss, and endocrine problems such as menopause symptoms from medication or surgical removal of the ovaries are frequent issues cancer survivors face. We work with cancer patients and offer them appropriate disease surveillance and treatment of their symptoms whether the symptoms are caused directly by cancer or as a side effect of the treatment.

Often, female cancer survivors are unable to take hormone replacement for their menopausal symptoms and suffer from the many changes that happen after a decrease in their natural hormone levels. We have non hormonal treatment options and will work with you to find suitable solutions to fit your life and minimize your symptoms.

  • Social/Coping Counseling

    Approach to Therapy

We believe that psychotherapy is a collaborative process. We focus on addressing needs and issues that bring patients into therapy, and teaching skills or developing new ways of thinking or new behaviors, so that the patient can not only see improvement, but also be able to continue this on their own outside of therapy. Each session, we will set an agenda together, and work on issues that are most important. Many times, we will give patients “homework assignments” – either skills to practice in-between sessions, or exercises to help facilitate discussions or other work within sessions. This helps to maximize the effectiveness of our time together and counseling services.

We also ask for feedback each session, as open and honest feedback not only helps to build a strong relationship, it allows us to better tailor techniques and approaches to your unique needs.
